Can You Eat Sweets on a Diet?

One of the main reasons why many people can’t stick to fad diets is because they’re not allowed to eat the foods they love. If you’re choosing to diet for ethical reasons, a health condition or simply for weight-loss, it can be difficult to ditch your favourite chocolate and sweets and turn to healthy snacks - after all, it’s a real guilty pleasure that you can sit down to enjoy after a hard day at work or when you’re feeling a bit low. The good news is that you don’t necessarily have to cut out sweet treats from your diet.

In this blog, we’re going to look at a range of different diets and which sweets you can eat:

Weight-loss

When it comes to weight loss, diet is all about eating the right foods and limiting portion sizes. While it may be difficult for you to eat a couple of sweets at a time, taking this approach is much better than not being able to eat any at all while trying to shed the pounds!

There are some sweets and chocolate on the market which are low in fat and should be fine to eat on the occasional basis but it would be advised to stick to roughly 100 – 300 calories worth of sweets in one sitting to keep the pounds off.

According to studies, dark chocolate is actually the healthiest choice if you have a sweet tooth. It contains high oxidant levels which have been proven to reduce the risk of heart disease and lower blood pressure, providing you eat it in moderation, of course!

Vegan

Before starting out on the vegan diet, many people are worried about whether eating sweets and chocolate is still an option. As there is global popularity for the vegan diet, companies are now jumping on the bandwagon to create sweets for vegans,

It may, however, come as a shock to you that the majority of sweets aren’t actually vegan. Most sweets are made from gelatine, which is the chewy, rubbery texture of cola bottles, gummy bears and wine gums. This substance derives from the skin of cows and pigs and is dyed to give it a bright pigmentation alongside added sugars and sweeteners. You can find a vast array of vegan sweets to buy in bulk on our website.

Gluten-free

If you are a sufferer of coeliac disease, you will have to cut gluten out of your diet for life. This is the only remedy for the condition, which means that people often believe they’re unable to eat sweets.

The confectionary industry has reacted to the demand for more gluten-free sweets and many different types of sweets are now readily available to buy in bulk from our website. This means that you can indulge in your favourite sweets, without suffering the consequences later on. Check out our gluten-free range here.

Diabetes

It’s a general misconception that those who suffer with diabetes can’t eat sweets, but according to the American Diabetes Association, this simply isn’t the case. While sugary sweets can be eaten in moderation, sugar-free sweets are a much healthier alternative for those with diabetes and reduces the risk of a rise in the blood glucose level. Dairy-free

A lactose-free diet means steering clear of foods that contain dairy. The majority of brands create their chocolate bars with milk, which means that those with lactose intolerance are pretty much ruled-out from indulging on their favoured snack. However, we stock a wide range of dairy-free sweets to cater to those who are unable to eat dairy.
