Summer Sensations (and our favourite confectionery ads!)

Confectionery brings us happiness right? Definitely! And on all levels, whether as a treat for ourselves or as a gift for others and never more than at this time where life isn’t quite as normal as we are used to. So, maybe we are looking for a tasty rewarding treat after our taking part in our  permitted daily exercise or having worked up a sweat to a Joe ‘The Body Coach’ Wicks workout - the nation’s new PE teacher. And don’t we usually turn to our long time favourite? Sweets and all confectionery evokes all sorts of memories and emotions and all those confectionery adverts absolutely know how to tap into those emotions - not that we are complaining though!

Just look at all the advertising campaigns that have taken place over the years - don’t you just want a taste of that Cadbury Dairy Milk ‘with the glass and a half’, or the ‘sweet that melts in your mouth and not in your hand’. But we also love to share our confectionery and there are lots of sharing bags of sweets and chocolate to choose from. The latest TV advert from Haribo with the two policemen in their patrol car and their bag of Haribo Starmix is both funny and memorable and makes you want to buy and share a bag of happy Haribo sweets. And of course there is nothing like dipping into a tin of your family favourites.

Slogans and tag lines we remember are the classic ‘have a break, have a KitKat’

and the alluring Cadbury Flake crumbliest, flakiest chocolate, and how a Mars a day helps you ‘work, rest and play’. And the classic the lighter way to eat chocolate

So with the summer season approaching and with the steady ease of the current restrictions we have been experiencing,  it is time to start thinking about stocking up your summer sweet shelves to tempt those taste buds. From retro, vintage or colour themed pick n’ mix, make your shelves summer special with Crazy Candy Factory Ice Cream Cones and Strawberries, Jelly Belly Ice Cream Jelly Beans, Kingsway Jelly Beach mix,Slush Puppy Dip n lick Lollipops and not forgetting an old traditional summer favourite some gloriously sticky Toffee Honeycomb.

So if you are packing up a ‘Zoom’ picnic, getting ready for a socially distanced event or trip to the beach or countryside, there is still something special about the summertime. We may not experience  it in quite the same way this year - there maybe no candy floss, popcorn, candy laces or marshmallows at the fun fair or at the cinema, but we do have the opportunity to all get together and get out our sharing bags, tins and boxes of sweets, chocolate and candy to share across the virtual airways on Skype, House Party, Tik Tok, WhatsApp and still make an experience for  the taste and atmosphere of summer.   So fill up your shelves with some ‘Eastern promise’ , and a ‘a taste of paradise’ . Mmmmm!
